I wasn’t aware of the Lily Allen thing. I guess I had bought into her image like everyone else, and just assumed she was independent. I still like her though, even if she is an EMI puppet.

Tell Matt to ignore the forum pond life and keep on doing what he is doing. In my experience Taylor players are drawn to Taylor trumpets because they like the way they look and want to have an instrument that boosts their ego. 99% of the time these players are enthusiastic but average amateurs who think that a Taylor will make them look like a professional.

As many have pointed out, this whole Taylor incident has proved one thing – people who spend their lives posting nasty comments on forums are sad and unfulfilled individuals who need to get out more.

George, you’ll have to ask him yourself, but I’m often told that certain aspects of my personality have rubbed off on him.

I read some of the forum responses to Matt’s post, along with Andy Taylor’s response, and found the whole thing hilarious like you.

Martin, what responsibility? Matt wrote a satirical post in which he expressed an opinion. An opinion that I agree with 100%. And then Andy Taylor decided to wade in with a very clumsy response closely followed by a number of Taylor players who, frankly, behaved in a disgusting manner.

James, your descriptions of the trumpet forums in question are frighteningly accurate!

I read about Matt on one of the UK brass forums. I think it was called “the forum for people who can’t play but like to moan about people who can” or maybe “the forum for cornet players to get all angry and jealous about trumpet players”. Something like that, can’t remember the exact title.

It was to Matt’s great credit that he didn’t rise to the challenge on the forums and was man enough to just sit back, probably laugh at it all, and enjoy the extra traffic. A trick he probably learned from you, Ashley.

Matt is a cool trumpet player and seems like a cool guy. Well done for giving you protogé a helping hand and shining some of the spotlight on him.

How much of his antics are down to the way you taught him?

He’s coming across as very self assured on his blog and has taken a swipe at Taylor trumpets and their players that has got the Taylor community running around with their panties in a bunch. The trumpet forums are alive with the sound of Taylor players yelling at each other!

It’s hilarious! If he’s done it for publicity then it’s certainly worked!

Video is very cool, already a reader of Matt’s blog, and now a ready of yours.

Sadly, it’s not the listeners of music who are ruining the music industry. It’s the record companies who fail to realize that business is changing and the desires of fans are changing. Their refusal to change (which incidentally would benefit them as well) has the power to ruin the industry.
